Are You a Good Mooring Ball Neighbor?
One of the things that makes sailing in the British Virgin Islands so enjoyable is sharing beautiful anchorages with other charter guests. A little courtesy goes a long way toward making everyone’s vacation safer and more enjoyable.
Here are a few simple mooring ball etiquette tips:
⚓ Arrive early when you can. Popular mooring fields often fill up by mid-afternoon, especially during peak season.
⚓ Approach slowly. Take your time when picking up a mooring ball. Rushing usually creates more stress than success.
⚓ Keep the music at a respectful level. Everyone came to enjoy the water—some for the party, others for the peace and quiet.
⚓ Watch your wake. Slow down when entering or leaving a mooring field to avoid rocking neighboring boats.
⚓ Respect personal space. Avoid swimming or paddleboarding through another yacht’s cockpit area unless invited.
⚓ Leave the mooring ball as you found it. Help keep the system in good condition for the next crew.
